We are trying to hook up a pair of small speakers to the lineout of a sound card and we need a small amplifier to accomplish this. Does anyone have any experience on this?

Easily done. I use an old Sony reciever with the sound cards output routed to the CD or AUX input on the reciever, then hook the speakers to the reciever. works. Far better sound than any computer speaker.

You still need an amp. Many sound cards have enough amplification for internal PC speakers (in the case).

Describe the speakers you want to use. Most people would use internally amplified speakers.

The speakers are a small 4 inch pair. Cute as they can be.

Take +12vdc from a hard disk power connector.

  8. If you don't absolutely have to use your own speakers, go to Google and search on "USB-powered speakers."

USB-powered speakers eliminate the need for any other power supply, and will produce stereo output.

why not just buy a new pair of speakers, most PC speakers have their own amp nowadays.
Also, if your sound is not part of the mother board you might find a jumper on the sound card that will put correct level on the line out to drive the speakers
