    Hi,

I have some issues with converting a .flv file. I've downloaded a live concert from a site (http://www.officinalive.it/pagine/brantbjork.html), and wanted to convert it to mpg to burn on dvd for personal use. With every program I tried (SUPER, Riva, Magic Video Converter, and lots more) it wouldn't work. The programs always tell me the file is encoded wrong, or something like that.
However, when I try to watch the video, it plays just fine, without any problems.
Does anybody know what the problem is or how I'm able to convert it?

    Many thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Dirk

One other tool you might try is WinFF.

Some tools can't handle flv for input. If winff don't work for you try extracting the video and audio with flv extract then encoding those to dvd compliant with tools like hcenc for video and aften/besweet/ffmpegui for the audio. Author those files with something like guifordvdauthor or dvdauthorgui. That is what I do when I need to convert the occasional flv to dvd.

The FLV extractor also gives me an error: "This isn't a FLV file." I was pretty sure it was a FLV file.

    Kind regards,

This isn't a FLV file, but F4V (similar to MP4).

So I guess you're right! Should I rename the file to xxxx.f4v?

    Thanks for the replies!

I have never seen fv4 so I have no idea but I really doubt that renaming it will help.

Since Placio74 seems familiar with fv4 perhaps he will have a suggestion.

  10. .f4v is a type of flash video , that commonly used with Adobe products

avidemux should work, and contains internal splitter & codecs so it doesn't rely on system installed ones

If you want your system directshow filters to function , you need a mp4 splitter such as one from the mpc-hc project. You can register the .ax separately. You also need a h.264 and aac decoder, the most common one being ffdshow. This is probably why the other converters failed, as they uses the system installed codecs/splitters

  11. F4V it's slighty modified MP4.

FFmpeg have troubles with this file.
Yamb (MP4Box) re-mux only 3/4 file, but can demux A/V streams.
Can play in DirectShow (MP4 Splitter + required decoders), but troubles after 3/4 playing.

Hmm... try Avidemux (can open and convert this file).

    Or use Yamb...
    - change file extension to MP4 (only for visible by Yamb),
    - demux (extract) video and audio tracks,
    - mux (join) again to new MP4 file.
After, have new 'standard' MP4 file and I don't see any problems with conversion.

Alright, Avidemux did the job! Only one problem, the original file is 800x438 (it's slightly different than 16:9), but as an output I can only choose between 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9. Any tips for this little problem?

Well, thanks for the very helpfull tips and suggestions! And thanks in advance for this final, small problem!

    Kind regards,
    Dirk

  14. Crop and/or add 'black bars'.
    Also resize to 720x400.
(Max res for DVD-Video is 720x576)
