Hi I am trying to convert old DVDs to mkv format. I also want to upconvet them to 720p resolution. I tried handbrake but It does not improve the resolution (unless I am missing some steps). Is there any application that I can use to do this. I am using network media tank and watching on 133" screen with 1080p projector, so getting 720p or higher resolution is priority. Thanks

  2. the only thing re-encoding dvds to 720p can do is make them look worse.

every time something is encoded it loses video quality no matter what is used to do the encoding.

get a dvd/blu-ray player that upscales in hardware if you must have 720p.

  3. Use MakeMKV to remux the DVD into an MKV file. Let the player do the scaling. You won't be able to do significantly better with software.
