I see mkvextract exe in the mkv toolnix contents, but i cant use that, I tried imkvextractor 2.0, but that takes every mkv i clikc on and tries to extract it, rather than letting me play it or keep it. I dont want an obtrusive program like that, just something simple like mkvextract. If there is nothing, I guess partition > windows is the easiest solution

so what is your end goal you want to achieve?

do you just want to play it? Quicktime w/Perian will do that.
do you need it to be in another format, such as .avi? MoKgVm2DVD handles that.

i want to be able to extract audio/subtitle files from it. Im guessing you misunderstood me. When you use imkvextract2.0, when you click on an mkv (default action is extraction, instead of playing. When you copy an MKV, it keeps it from copying perfectly. Using mkvtoolnix, i can uncheck the video/audio and any other files i dont want, but am left with the subtitle files in an mkv container. I want to be able to perform the actions of mkvextract (which is only availiable in mkvtoolnix windows) where i can extract the files into their original state, without being obtrusive like imkvextract 2.0

No simply did not understand what you clearly wanted to achieve,
as the tools you mention aren't available / aren't used on the Mac platform,
plus in your first post you mention BOTH play and extract.

Now that I have a clearer picture:

the only option on the mac to do this is to use the Unix based mkvtoolnix,
and perform the command line functions to extract the pieces from the
    .mkv file.

FYI. Besides converting .mkv videos to .avi or .mp4, MoKgVm2dvd (or the newer version MKVtools) will let you extract selected tracks from an .mkv file. It's basically a GUI for, among other things, many of the tools in mkvtoolnix.
