  1. Does anyone know how to convert Quicktime files into DVDs? I think it's called MPEG-2 or something.

  2. To make DVDs you need a DVD burner available on G4 macs with Superdrive and the idvd software from Apple, which allows to convert your quicktime files, author them in DVD format with menus and burn the disk.

Is it also possible using an external Firewire DVD-R/RW drive, an iMac G3 and Toast 5 Titanium's DVD option? Does Toast encode the Quicktime video to DVD spec?

  4. Toast doesn't encode to MPG2 - its DVD option is only for burning - however on a G3 you should still be able to make DVDs by encoding to DVD spec with Astarte M-Pack 3.5.1 and then use DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning (the installer checks for G4 so you need to copy back on a G3 after install). DVDSP allows to do almost everything (multi-angle, complex menus, etc), supports various third party burners and also includes Astarte A-Pack to encode audio in Dolby AC3 format.
