hi all, hopefully someone can advise me on my problem.

I have captured a 90 minute wedding into Premiere Pro 2, then exported an avi file. I imported this into DVDWS2 and built a menu and encoded. I set up a 2 pass variable and was able to get a setting of 6000 (which I was delighted with) and built the DVD.

On my DVD player- the dreaded jerky DVD! pain!!

My pc is windows xp, format is PAL. There is no upper or lower first issues as I have had a similar problem before in Encore and went through all of that and finally decided to r-install encore 1.5 and that solved the problem.

I want to use DVDWS2 as I prefer the menus and I have had more bugs in encore and also I am really curious to see what the final output quality is like compared to encore 1.5

Can anyone advise me where am I going wrong as I have never used DVDWS2 before.

Would it be better to encode first in Premier Pro 2 via the main concept encoder and then import the files into DVDWS2 to build the menus?

I know that DVDWS2 takes forever to encode but if the final result is great then I don't mind. In the meantime, i have decided to split the wedding in 2 45 minute segments to make sure that the quality is as good as possible.

    Please help,

    thanks to all

Without a sample this is just guess work, but I would suggest you have got your field order mixed up somewhere in the process.

thanks guns1inger for the reply, but I have exported the same avi file into adobe encore 1.5 and there was no jerky output on the DVD player.

Therefore I believe that it is not a filed issue, unless DVDWS2 changes the fields for some reason. I have exported hundreds of avi files into Encore and never had a field issue before and I have always used the same cameras with the same field set-ups (ie lower field first as it is PAL).

I will try to get a sample but apart from the field issue, any other suggestions?
Is there anything I should uncheck or check when I open DVDWS2 such as in the preferences area?
Could it be something that DVDWS2 does with interlacing?

I really appreciate any help I can get.

    thanks,

That is what a field issue is. Interlaced video is stored and presented as fields. Two field make a frame. If the field order gets reversed during encoding or export, you can get jerky playback. A sample of the encoded DVD video will quickly tell us if that is the issue. If you have something like VideoRedo or Womble Mpeg Video Wizard you will be able to quickly trim off a couple of seconds for posting.

Are you exporting to DV AVI ? If so, the field order should be bottom field first.

thanks mate, I will work on getting a sample.

Yes the export form Premiere Pro is DV AVI, bottom fields first. Surely the fact that the same export worked without jerkiness in Encore means that there is no field issue?

    I am no expert though.

Both Encore and DVDWS are encoding the video. If DVDWS interprets the video incorrectly as top field first, it will encode the video incorrectly and produce jerky output.
