I have an AVI that the file size was a little too big so I used AVI-Mux_GUI-1.17.8 to cut off a few minutes, but after doing this, the file size was reduced by more than the proportion of time cut off. My question is: Why does AVI-Mux_GUI cut the file size? Will this reduced file size reduce the picture quality? It seems to me that simple editing should not alter the parameters of the video. Following first screenshot is of original AVI and second screenshot is of AVI edited with AVI-Mux_GUI.

No, it can't convert. Have you tried played it so it's really 1:58:09 minutes? And try cut with avidemux or virtualdub and see if it's the same size.

Yes, the edited version seems to play fine with Media Player Classic and is 1:58:08. I haven't tried to edit with any other program yet.
