Ok heres the deal. I have a modded xbox 1 and play roms on it. I want to use my snes and nes controllers on it. I have seen mods to do this. However I have no soldering skills.

I do have the retrousb gamecube adapters so I can use my nes+snes controllers on my WII via the gamecube control ports.

I haven't been able to find a gamecube to xbox 1 adapter yet. I have seen usb adapters of course. I don't think those would work on a modded console unless there was some sort of driver available for it.

I have seen the ps1 and ps2 to xbox adapters. Did they ever make an adapter to use an nes/snes on a playstation 1 or 2? If so then I could buy those two together.

Anyone have suggestions for getting an nes and snes controller working on an xbox 1? Remember this is not a do it yourself project I am willing to take on. This is a purchase I'm looking to make. OR if you know of a service website that will do this for you I'd be interested too....

    Thans.

    EDIT -

    This is interesting for ps2:

    http://www.estarland.com/product31171.html

Coupling that with a ps2 to xbox controller adapter might get it done. However I'd still prefer to have the real controllers. I'll keep looking. Please post any suggestions. THanks.

    Thats good!!

I have a ton of SNES roms on dvd that i play on my PS2 but i have never seen one of those before.

I do have a PS2 controller i bought some years back that is plugged for my Dreamcast.

I was thinking of trying to find a PS2 controller that was wired for my 360 but then after playing it through a game it ended up being better then i thought it would be and rather like it.

I have a ton of sites bookmarked with mods for pretty much every game system, i'll search through some of them tomorrow and see what they have.

I know there were adapters available to use USB controllers on X-BOX (since X-BOX controllers are just USB anyway with a proprietary connector).
Between those and the GC to USB adapters on retrousb you may be able to kludge something...

@noahtuck - if you find any links for my situation please feel free to post them.

@xylob - do you think they've written drivers for modded xbox's for those usb controllers? If so then I could buy the usb adapters for the nes+snes controllers and load the drivers on the xbox 1. I don't know I'd have to look for them. Maybe its time to do some posting on xbox-scene.com. I thought I'd check here first

Thanks and please keep the suggestions coming.

Well my modded xbox is acting up. So for now I'm content playing these on the pc. I'll look back at this when the xbox 1 is running smoothly again.

If anyone has suggestions please feel free to post them.

Yeah i could not find anything other then what Xylob posted.
I could not even find the PS2 controllers wired for a dreamcast anywhere, but that's no big suprise.

I did find different schematics to wire the controllers to new plugs but......

Yeah but like I said before - soldering and me don't mix

Now if I wanted to buy a bunch of controllers to use as test dummies I might consider it. But I don't think I want to it that badly.

Again if anyone knows of a place that will do this for you I would consider it.

    Thanks for all the posts.

    Bump.

If anyone is interested I finally settled on an acceptable solution. I have come to figure out that the d pad is the main culprate. I came across the term "floating dpad" and figured that might be the issue. The two controllers I have (one standard wired and one no name wireless) both have d pads that are raised and do indeed "float" above the control pad. Whereas the nes and snes control dpads were independent directional arrows with solid contact.

Here is what I just bought on ebay:

It was 25.00 buy it now. What is nice about this particular model is A - its an official xbox 1 controller so no lag issues B - the d pad appears to be much more normal and resembles the traditional nes/snes mold.

I have a feeling that this should be much nicer for the classic games. The problem with the floating dpad is the response level isn't the same for the classics. Its not a lag issue its just the click response time of going from left to right real fast or doing something like a street fighter or mortal kombat type combo moves. You need real firm responses to nail those on timing.

Here's hoping this does the trick. I had virtually given up hope of using the authentic snes and nes controllers on the xbox. I doubt drivers exist for a usb controller adapter and it would probably take so much time and effort beyond what I've already put it into this to not make it worthwhile.

This should hopefully be a good substitute and "solve" the problem of the d pad.

    @ xylob - thanks I'll pass on a review.

THere were some other similar type controllers. I decided on madcatz because I know they've been around awhile and are not a fly by night operation.

I'm hoping it has good tactile response.

    well it came today.

It looks great and it was nib. Plus its a small form xbox 1 controller not the honkers of the other older style.

And by the feel the D PAD seems great. Unfortunately:

I'M OUT OF AAA BATTERIES!!!! DOH!!!

It needs two of them two. I've gone and salvaged two different remote controls that use aaa and both aren't strong enough to run the damn the thing.

I'd go to the store but theres GAME 7 for the WINGS and DUCKS tonight with the pregame in just a half hour. I'll have to wait for tomorrow night to do the full fledged test.

But its a good sign that the d pad "feels" right so far. Only bummer is the a,b,x,y buttons are out of position in comparison to a snes/nes controller. They are inline with the thumb stick not the d pad. But all things consdered it seems to be a step in the right direction.

I can't wait for a full fledged test this weekend.

    EDIT 5-15-09

GO WINGS!!!!! GREAT GAME 7!!!!! Hello CHICAGO!

    -----------------------

I finally got some new AAA batteries. The thing is beautiful. I fired it up and played some snes roms. The thing handles perfectly. The execution on the d pad is excellent. This is the next best thing to having a true snes/nes pad. And the best thing is no lag with any rigged adapter cable set.

You don't have to buy just a madcatz to get this. IF your looking to get a good xbox 1 controller with reliable d pad support check to make sure that the dpad is not floating. Check the picture earlier in the thread. You'll see that there is only the dpad arrows that are visible. On regular xbox 1 and even 360 controllers for that matter, you see the d pad arrows and a recessed disc below it. This controller doesn't have that recessed disc. There other brands like this. Your best bet is to check if there is a picture for it first. If buying on ebay make sure the picture resembles the one above.
