Tevion DVD Recorder DD1018 - not initialising disks - unknown

My parents brought this DVD recorder and are having trouble finding compatible DVD's to use.

They had Imation DVD's that didn't work, but it says in the manual they are not compatible so they brought TDK which were on the list but they only get up to 20% initialising and then says unknown disk. TDK say they are Imation on the packet?

We've also tried Verbatim which aren't on the Yes or No list.

Have left a message with support to find if they know of a compatible DVD that they KNOW works but haven't heard back as it's getting a bit expensive going through the list of compatible DVDs. Thought I would search the net to see if anyone knows of any manufacturers DVD's that actually work.

I believe somethings not right with the unit.
Take it back to the shop and tell them it's broken.

Ask for your money back. Insist they prove it's not broken by initializing a disk if they baulk.
If you have them, take with you a blank of each brand of disk you tried.

I'd get my money back anyhow, if possible.
