Can I save a circular, or any other shape, jpeg? Currently I save square or rectangular jpeg's. If I have a circular image I put it in the center and surround it with the appropriate background color. I don't know if I'm making this clear. Let's say I have a 500 x 500 pixel jpeg. I put my circular image in the center and paint the outside of the circle the color matching my web page.
Can I just somehow save a circular jpeg?

  2. Do you want to save a transparent png, so only the cookie shows and the background is transparent? (The image is actually square, but transparency is enabled, so it looks like it isn't square)

I must be missing something. I don't get how you even put it on this posting.
I have saved the file as a transparent png in photoshop, but the yellow background still shows when I put it on a web page.
Do png files cause any conflict on the internet? I have only used jpeg and gif.

  4. If the yellow shows, you probably didn't do it correctly. Just google for "transparent png photoshop" and there are dozens of guides. You should see the checkerboard pattern in photoshop if the transparent area is done correctly. I did a lower quality 8-bit png (e.g. you can see the chocolate eyes are lower quality), but you can do 24 as well

They generally don't cause internet problems, but some browsers and older versions of IE might not display it properly

Here is the higher quality version (much larger in size, 5x). Note you could use transparent .gif, but the quality is much much lower (looks very bad)

Thanks. I'll google it. I'm probably missing something simple.

  6. You have to select the color that you want to have as transparent. As I recall this is done in Photoshop during the 'save' process. It might be in the 'save for web' option. Which version of PS are you using?

Irfanview can do this as well.

I got it. Problem was that it shows up funny in my FrontPage, but when loaded it shows up properly on the web. In FrontPage it still show a background. The guides on google did the trick.

PNG does not show transparency beyond 8-bit in IE6, some IE7 and some IE8. It's only reliable in Firefox or Chrome.

FrontPage uses IE6 for preview engine.

The 60% of the world looking at your site with and old IE also sees the fugly box and background.
