Hey guys I just read an somewhat old post the other day that they will no longer be making vhs blank tapes and was wondering is this true? I am still able to get them at my local walmart store but that is the only place to get them nowadays in my small town anyways. I know I am still kind of behined the times but I still use them to record with and still transfer stuff to dvd and like to have some back up tapes along with my dvd's if needed. Is there an online store that sells vhs blanks at a decent price nowadays? Thanks Eric

I haven't checked that aisle recently, but am pretty sure they still have the blank cassettes at Fry's. And they would surely be available various places online. The more important question would be 'Are the tapes available now all atrocious crap ?' For awhile now, all the tapes I've seen at Fry's were made in China. (That is a confidence-builder for very few products, these days !) I used to buy major brands that were made in Japan (or Canada), which were of good quality. Then, a bit later, only a few, higher-cost SVHS blanks were like that. Now . . . no idea.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

I would imagine they would still be available for sometime to come. I see them on Craig's List as well.

heman31 - I'm stating the obvious here, but you don't HAVE to go VHS->DVD
when DVD recorders are still (barely) available in the USA. Even my retired father can work a DVD recorder. I would guess that as long as some company thinks they can still make enough money from VHS tape sales and there are more guys like you than I think there are, someone will continue to make tapes, but really you are relying on a dying technology here. I would fully expect any quality manufacturers to exit the field and leave it to any cut rate, low quality companies that want to do it, so don't expect to find good quality tapes any more even if you can still find tapes somewhere.

Well I almost 95 percent use dvd-r for my recordings better quality and such then vhs but I still use the vcr for once in a while recording. Mainly what I use the vhs tapes for is if I have some important tapes I want to have them on vhs and dvd-r for keepsake purposed just in case if the dvd would ever go bad if i keep a vcr handy I can remake it. That is why I was wondering if they still made vhs blanks just in case I need one. I have been using dvd-r to record my tv shows I want to keep for almost 2 years now. I just use vhs tapes in my dual deck when I want to record something that I am not going to keep. I just don't like to use dvd blanks unless its something I want to keep. Thats all.

Yes, VHS 120s, 160s, and 180s are still available (link), but I wonder about product quality versus, say, ten years ago.
