    Hi poisondeathray,

I have tried to install it, but after click the x2641140.exe, there is a block console box, then it disappears. Then I open my cam recorder and still can not find h264 encoder exists in the codec list.

A further question, what benefit I could achive when using h264 encoder, from both end user side and from server side (on server I handle things like encoding/uploading/streaming).

If you install x264vfw, it should show up on the list (beware the default settings are very low quality, and you should adjust to meet your needs)
    thanks in advance,

  2. you probably have the wrong version, the cli version

you need x264vfw for it to show up on the list

the problem is that it's h264 in avi, most streaming sites use mp4 for flash (not sure if avi is supported), so there might be an extra step to rewrap container

One big benefit is great quality/compression ratio, so it's suited for streaming. Another benefit of using flash h264/aac/mp4 , is that it is universally accepted (>99% penetration on windows systems). e.g. youtube uses this format. You can use jw media player if you want a front end to embed into websites. There is a guide here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic355179.html

The negatives are it takes more cpu to encode / decode (need a modern system)

Well, I still hadn't found any very-good reason to "upgrade".

Actually, until some weeks ago, WMP9 could indeed play an ASF file containing
H264 video. But now, WMP9 is unable to play it again.
Anyway, I have just installed WMP 11,... and the "upgrade" doesn't play
non-wmv ASFs either. I thought it was because I had installed the
stupid Windows Media Encoder, but I was wrong, uninstalling WME didn't solve
the "problem". Which is not a problem at all, really, it's
just another not-so-unexpected annoyance from Micr0§hit
Who needs WMP 9, 10 or 11, when WMP 6.4 can do that job, and well, ?

    @ 13:45 GMT --- WMP11 uninstalled successfully.

    Thanks poisondeathray,

    1.

I hava tried your below new installer, and install it on my Windows Vista x64 with Administrative privilege. But it is still not show on the list of Camtasia Recorder. My question is have you tried it on Windows Vista 64-bit before?

    2.

You think the compression/quality of h264 is much better than Camtasia Screen Recorder Code? Have you or someone else made some benchmark?

    3.

Do you think flash format is superior than wmv format for web based streaming, like what Youtube did? why?

    4.

What do you mean "jw media player"? jw short for?

    Hi Midzuki,

I have some experiments and find new things and I want to ask for your expertise.

    1. I have tried to encode my original recorded avi file into wmv format using Microsoft Expression Encoder 2, and using WMP 11 to play it from a remote URL, and I can jump to arbitrary location of the video even if not buffered yet, looks great!

    2. I have used an old machine which installed with WMP 10, and I use the player to play the same video from the same URL, and I find I can not jump to any arbitrary location which is not buffered yet.

My question is, looks like even if for the same server setting with the same video file, different player acts differently? Is such behavior expected? My confusion is, previously I think my issue is pure media itself (encoding/codec/etc.) issue, not related to player.
