Hello, I used one of Handbrake's presets to convert a file to .avi and it used the H264 codec.

I have Toast Titanuim 10 and have used it to burn .avi files onto a DVD-R. But when I tried to drag and drop this particular .avi file with the H264 codec I received an error message in Toast.

From what I can gather on the internet, Toast doesn't support the H264 codec? My other questions are, is there a way around this, or is there other DVD Burning software for Macs that do accept H264?

I have an iMac Dual Core Pentium 2.16Mhz. Thanks!

DVDs are encoded in MPEG2, so just convert from your source format into DVD-compliant MPEG2 (see "What is DVD?" in the upper left-hand corner of this page to get the specs, if they're unfamiliar to you). There are lots of tools that will do this. Ffmpegx is one.

Perform the conversion, then author, burn and enjoy!

  3. h264 is not a valid video codec for DVD-Video (but it's a valid codec for BluRay)
so, if you have a BluRay reader (PS3 for example), use Toast to create a BluRay on DVD-R
if you don't have, use Toast to convert it to MPEG2 (DVD-Video)
