I've been searching the forums, but I see more topics about people converting TO flv. Or just problems with specific programs.

I have 3 FLV files that I'd like to edit, so converting them to Quicktime or AVI would be nice.

So far, I've tried After Effects, Handbrake and MpegStreamClip. None would import the FLV files.

Can anyone recommend a good (free?) program that won't infect my computer with junk?

You might be able to use FLV Extract to demux the video and audio streams - FLV Extract demuxed a VP6 AVI-format video stream and MP3 audio stream from the original FLVs, but I'm not sure what it does with the newer-format FLVs. Also, you may be able to use AVIDemux (not sure) or WinFF (or other ffmpeg/mencoder GUIs) to convert FLVs to another format.

I'd try the demuxing route, first, though, because FLV quality often isn't that great, in my experience, and any extra re-encoding (if it isn't absolutely necessary) can incur quality hits.

    Thanks!

Okay, I just tried FLV Extract. It gave me AVI and MP3 files. The audio Mp3s are fine, but the videos are all black. Maybe I don't have the right codec installed?

    Not sure what VP6 means.

I'll try one of your other suggestions next.

You can try latest WinFF(ffmpeg) and convert to avi with some codec.

VP6 is a video codec, yes. You may indeed need to install a codec capable of playing VP6. If you have ffdshow installed, you can just enable VP6/VP7/FLV support in the Codecs options.

I tried WinFF, and it works great! I converted FLV to Quicktime with no problem.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
