  1. But it still doesn't scrub correctly in other apps, so if you are able to duplicate or offer a fix, it would be appreciated. But no big deal, I can figure something else out if this won't work.

  2. The odd thing about this is that there isn't anything particular special about how our software does things compared to others. I'll keep you posted on what I find.

Yeah, I understand. It's no problem. I really think it has something to do with when the tape stops, the software thinks that the recorder got removed abruptly or something. But it's no big deal, thanks for taking such an interest in this.

To second what frankmaster100 said, WinDV can use date the video was recorded in the filename (e.g. dv.2009-01-24_21-45-00.avi). If you are worried about splitting the video and having the date be the exact date you shot the footage, WinDV has the ability to break the video if there's more than an x second break in the recording time. It will go all the way down to 1 second. Of course this has its own disadvantage, as I found out when I mistakenly set WinDV to break if there was more than a 1 second break in the video. I had lots of files for a one-hour tape. I've found that setting WinDV to break if there is more than a 1-hour break in the video serves me pretty well.

Having said all that, here's how I usually archive my videos, as I know someday I will not have a device that can read my Digital8 tapes. I have a 500GB external drive. After capturing to an internal drive, I move the files to a location such as F:\DVFiles\2008-04-10 thru 2008-05-30\ where the 2008-04-10 is the first date on the tape, and 2008-05-30 would be the last date on the tape. That way everything is available and organized by date. Special events, such as a trip to Disney World in Florida (where the event covers more than one tape) get archived to F:\DVFiles\startdate thru enddate\Event1 thru Event2\.

This method for archiving the video serves me well. When I can afford a bigger drive, I will copy the video over to the new drive and keep going. At this point I can't afford the mirrored drive (got 2 kids whose needs come first) so I also back up to Verbatim DVD+R disks, as those have a reputation for being good-quality disks.
