Just wondering whether anyone can help me - I was told by a sales man @ a store that I can get a code that I can use to convert my portable dvd player so that it plays DivX. Can someone please confirm or deny and if yes where can I get this code from? Thanks

The unit will need to play divx files. A code would not help. What model # is it? Do a Search on Google and it will tell you if it will play divx files.

Good Luck And Welcome to the Forum

I think the salesman was referring to DivX VOD (Video On Demand). Your device has an 8-10 character code which you use to register your DivX certified player in order to rent or purchase DivX movies from any licensed VOD partner. Typically, you'll find the VOD code in the setup menu of your device.

Here are a couple links with further information....

You do not need the VOD code for an Divx movies you create yourself.

Divx playback requires a special processing chip that either your portable player has or it doesn't. If it has it, no special code should be necessary. If it doesn't have it, no special code will work.

Both lordsmurf and philips599037 have provided reasonable explanations for this. You'll have to figure out which is correct. If your manual (you do have the manual for the portable, right?) says nothing about Divx play back, then lordsmurf has nailed it.
