My Pioneer 111D is the last (>8x) soldier still standing.

The Sony DRU-710A and AW-G170A both fail to play even an audio CD.

If I get the time, I'll replace firmware.

Don't throw them out. Donate them to your local school, church, etc.

I've got an HP300n burner it is about 5 years old. Still works great when I use it in my older pc, but I currently use my Benq1620 and Samsung TS-652L drives that are in my newer PC

nu global 8x dvdrw, it was the worlds fastest for all of 30 milliseconds when it came out, and got surpassed by everything. It has been horrible from day one. It may even be 7-8-10 years old for all I know (we as americans do not get the latest)

Just got a memorex today in fact, as a memory from my first writer that never died: memorex 1622 (a true classic of strong engineering- and still running at 11 years old)
The "new" memorex is a 530L 20x lite-on variant. For now I let the NU sit in the bay dead. I did get some backups however, and still do not know if it works in other players (mostly backup).

I have one thats about 4 years old, but its in a drawer, "who am i kidding, its lying in a box along with my other discarded stuff never to be used again" still works but was starting to have problems reading disks, a good clean probably would have sorted that, but ive had about 6 burners over the last 5 years. granted two where lost due to my water cooling leaking, and the rest just gave up. But for £22 you just buy a new one. learnt my lesson from dvd burners when they first came out so i wont buy a blue ray untill they severly drop in price.
