See Subject. They probably are no longer available from retailers, but did one like that exist and any idea where I can get one?

That's not a mini-cartridge tape, if I understand the abbrevation.

  4. ??? HDV is shot on miniDV tape. the sony HDR-HC9 can record either 1440x1080 HDV or 720x480 SD. there is no other consumer cam tape.

It's not an abbrreviation...it's the model
    HC1, HC3, HC5, HC7, HC9...all mini-DV tape drives
Of these, the HC1 had the most features...

(This may be a duplicate post. I just hit postreply and don't see my post 30+ minutes later. I suspect I should hit Quick Reply. Here' goes.)
I was unaware of these camcorders, so let me refocus what I'm after. No high-def, and cheaper. I'm looking for something like the older TRV-480 that I have.

Yes, I know that. I have one. What I need is a cheap way to get to a hot shoe.

I would think the next step up from it would be mini-dv with a hot shoe.

What would be of interest is knowing what Handycam came after my TRV above. Interestinly, for the first time, I recently started looking at CL.ist.

I don't recall any hot shoe models promoting support for other than their own brand accessories. Will a Canon hotshoe mic work with Sony or visa versa?

Hmmm. Reminds me I have a Sony hot shoe active mic and a Canon HV20. I'll try to find that mic.

I guess I think I'm implying by hot shoe that it has the ability to put a mike rcvr on the shoe and plug it into the camcorder. Basically, I'm looking for an early model that will use a mike remotely. I want the ability to have a mike remotely. I'm trying to keep the cost under $300 by buying an early model, if possible.

I mostly use wireless remote mics. Camera mounted mics are less successful unless inside 10 feet.

Back in the early 90's I bought one of these to do a friends wedding. OK for the money. It doesn't use the hot shoe.

For serious work I rent a Shure or Sennheiser wireless mic system.

Thanks, but no camcorder under $300 with external hook-up, then I the device isn't going to help me.
