Hi all, I got DX50 (DIVX5/6) HD (720p) file that PS3 (fw 2.60) complain about incompatible format. I though PS3 can play newer DIVX format even before fw2.6. As such, I am looking for a good, free, and fast way to make it layable by PS3. I tried RedKawa PS3 Video 9 and although get the job done it is single threaded and took almost 2 hr to transcode a 1 hr video.

Any multithreaded apps that can keep all of my 4 cores CPU busy? TIA for your help.

I don't know about multi-threaded-ness (), but you might also give Xvid4PSP a try. (Despite its name, it's not just for the PSP.)

Xvid4PSP uses X264 for encoding PS3 MP4's and uses all cores. I probably won't use them to 100% across the board, but is it still an improvement. It has presets for the PS3, and the quality is very good. I haven't had anything created by it not play, or not stream with PS3 Media Server. It also handles and produces m2ts files as well, if that is what you need (and you will if you want multi-channel AC3 as Xvid4PSP still can't put AC3 into an MP4 - one it's few oversights)

Thank you all. Very quick with suggestion as usual!

One more thing. So XVID is more acceptable by PS 3 than DIVX? Can we use FourCC changer without actually transcoding it?

The PS3 will happily play Xvid, Divx, MP4 (H264/AAC), mpeg-1, mpeg-2 etc. It will even play some WMV material if you enable it in the system menu. It can browse and play material directly from an iPod (not DRM protected material).

I encode for the PS3 using H264/AAC in an MP4 container for most things, as I can get better quality in the same file size as Xvid/Divx. I only go Divx/Xvid if I need the files to play on other devices as well.

The name Xvid4PSP is just that, a name. It is capable of encoding to a wide range of formats.
