How to reinstall the codecs? (K-lite, XVID, etc.)

I have a problem and here it is: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic365615.html

But it seems nobody knows what should i do. adding to that problem, when i play some .mov with WMP it shows the very first of the video (literally the 1st frame) then it doesn't continue even the audio. that's only for some .mov in my computer. And that is only for WMP. For Media Player Classic (which is included with K-lite mega codec pack) the .mov plays fine.

Since I think my codecs are ruined (i think so), then i want to reinstall the codecs. Currently i have K-lite mega codec pack 4.2.5, Xvid codec 1.1.3 (even i have k-lite because when i use some converting[or editing xvid avi] software[i think it was AVI Recomp?] it can't find Xvid), AC3 ACM Codec (i forgot why i even bothered to install this), and AVI Codec (i forgot what the hell is this but i have this in my add or remove programs).

If you think there isn't any problem especially when i do encoding or conversion then tell me. (I do a lot of conversion and encoding and also making a few DVDs out of xvid or mp4 and some other formats for my self).

If your codecs are ruined, it is because you use codec packs. They are nothing but trouble.

WMP is a poor choice for a player, is limited in what it can play, and how well, even with the right codecs installed.

If your codecs are already screwed, then installing more codec packs is a very hit and miss way to fix things. You might get lucky (hell, you might win the lottery to0 - someone has to), but are more likely to simply make things worse.

I would start by uninstalling all codec packs and codecs that you have installed so far. This includes FFDShow, Quicktime etc.

I would then use something like codec sniper to clean up the mess, remove dead codecs, and get things back to simple.

For playback, all you need is VLC ot The KM Player, and perhaps FFDshow to fill in any gaps. This will get you playback of most formats without any problems. If you find something you cannot play, use MediaInfo to find out what codec you need, and install just that codec.

Using codec packs is like using a shotgun to kill a mouse in your kitchen. Yes, you may well kill the mouse, but you will also screw up your kitchen as well.

Ok, i'd do that. So far, for about 2 years i never had problems playing videos on my WMP 11 and i love it that's why i am so like ruined right now.

I don't know what the power interruption did to my computer. I hope you have also read my other thread, the link i posted above so you may be able to know some other things that you may add.

    Thanks. ^^
