    Hi All,

Recently I discovered that some applications on my Windows XP PC (such as WMP, Windows Movie Maker etc.) are having trouble with many PCM-encoded WAV files.

The cause turns out to be Mpeg4DSF.dll. When it is present in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, GSpot reports:
    1) that the filter graph uses the Mpeg4DSF.dll Mpeg-4 Demultiplexor, as well as its Mpeg-4 NV Decoder
    2) that playback crashes inside Mpeg4DSF.dll

When I move that file to some other directory PCM playback works correctly. So far I can't tell what program Mpeg4DSF.dll was installed with.

The Mpeg4DSF.dll file properties say copyright Inter Object and Product Name says MPEG-4 SDK. According to some internet reports the Samsung PCStudio software also seems to contain this dll. There are only two vague references to MPEG4 on inobject.com, that site also says that globallogic.com has acquired the company, there are no references to MPEG4 on that site, there are many internet reports of people who list Mpeg4DSF.dll in their codecs and are having audio and video playback problems, but no solution so far.

Can anyone point me to an update for this dll which solves this problem?

Alternatively, what process do I follow to work out what application this was installed with to look for any updates for the latter?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Francois

Why not simply keep the file in another dir? If it works when moved to another location, it seems only logical to keep it in another location.

Otherwise, I could not turn up any useful information. No one seems to know exactly what it belongs too.

    Hello Krispy,

Google did indeed show me friendship. On the whole Internet I found around 2-3 references to the origin of this dll, being "MPEG-4 SDK". That in turn yielded 1 or 2 references to "MPEG-4 SDK Copyright (C) 2005 NGServ Consulting" and I think that ended with information that the company no longer existed or something.

Digging into my own computer showed that this formed part of an multi-media web player "add-on" that a friendly local mobile service provider had installed onto my machine with Internet Explorer's help.

After killing that, life became blissful again...

    Kind regards,
    Francois
