configuring the sound

I would like to know how can I change the configuration of my video player because if I try to mute the video player then I get also winamp mute. I would like to listen to music and play videos but without sound.
Any idea?

I use MPC and can mute the sound and play sound in other players.

I use mostly kmplayer. can I configure the player?

Mute the sound in the KM Player by clicking on the speaker icon next the volume slider in the player. If you mute using the speaker on the system tray you mute all system sounds.

Thanks. If I use the mute option then it works, but if I try to lower the volume level then it doesn't.

Lower the volume where ? In KM, or in the system tray ?

Again, I can control the volume KM independently of other players, or other instances of KM, including volume levels or muting.

If I lower the volume in KM, then all the system is mute.
