Ever since disabling UAC I don't think I've seen any nag screens pop up. Everything else seems like it has the same. I guess the UAC thing never really bothered me because I've used a lot of Linux distros that require not only clicking but password entry anytime you want to change settings or install programs.

    Like what? Oracle?

If you are making a system level change then you will need root permission. So it depends on the type of change and application being installed. But every change and every application, no, you don't need root permissions.

  3. Vista to me is very much like the Ford Edsel. What most people do not know about the Edsel is that it actually was a pretty decent car, and sold fairly well. The problem was that it was marketed as absolutely the best thing since sliced bread and was supposed to absolutely dominate the market, which it did not.

Vista marketing heavily pushed Aero Glass, which absolutely no one I have talked to has any interest in whatsoever. Most of the "improvements" consist of annoying the user, demanding more RAM and CPU, and causing mainstream applications not to work.

One customer described the OS as like a screwdriver to him. No interest in what it's made of, what color the handle is. "All I want to do is put THAT screw into THAT board, the tool either will do it or it's not something I want."

ME's problem was mostly in drivers, plus it was really only a half-step product, anyway. I view Vista as "worse" than ME mainly because it was supposed to be the next great thing.

ME was never going to have a 2.0, hopefully Vista 2.0 will actually work for most folks. I've only played briefly with the 7 Beta, seems decent but nothing I would spend $20.00 for, much less $100.00 or more.

7 will probably be better just because enough time has elapsed for drivers and apps to be updated to the new standard.
