Never, SD-DVDs upconverted look fine to me.

@yoda313 - Yes my cable provider does have a box with component output. However, for most HD content (including movies) they use the ICT, so you can only get SD over component. So HD is over HDMI only. The box is branded as "MyskyHDi" here in New Zealand, and while I don't know the actual make (haven't upgraded yet, not interested in paying for HD until I can archive) and fairly sure they have to have their own firmware loaded for the box to work, so hacking the firmware isn't be an option either (even if I knew how).
You would almost think they wanted to drive us paying customers towards downloading.........(which I don't do BTW) -
