  1. Hi
I have a 70 minute DVD which does not seem that large, would it be possible to rip to only one VCD? What settings in TMPGEnc should I use? would the outcome have an acceptable look at those settings?
    thanks

i believe you would be able to do it, but i recommend that you use 80min cds just in case it takes up a little too much room. you're supposed to be able to burn 80min of (s)vcd to an 80 min disc, but i haven't gotten that far yet.

yeah...some porns aren't too long eh bro

whoa...since when can you fit 80 min of SVCD/disc?....the quality must be horrible...don't think SVCD quality will be that much better than a regular VCD if you have to lower the bitrate so far to be able to fit 80 min of SVCD into 1 disc...

    is that wrong?

  5. unstuck,

If you are creating a standard VCD, you can fit up to 74min on one 74min CD-R (I wouldn't try anything more than 73:30 unless you really knew what you were doing -- or if you know you can overburn your disc).

    70min should easily fit on a 74min CD-R.

  7. Geez,

Encode the whole thing using TMPGenc using the standard VCD setting and change the "motion search precision" to High or Higher quality. This gives good quality VCD's that are fully VCD compliant and will play on almost all DVD players.

And if that's not good enough, you can make it non-compliant (will play on several standalones), just use VBR instead of CBR. Then you can use 0 MIN, 1150 AVG and 2400 MAX! (In theory, he he he)

Just adjust the AVG (and reduce your audio bitrate) for more time! Check on your standalone first, though...

As others have, said, standard VCD quality -- I believe this was what was being addressed in the first place?

    Sorry...

  11. OK
last burn I did was at CBR 2400. If I understand you guys correctly that probably will be <74 min MPEG?
    I'll try the VBR suggestion.
What is a "good" setting for the sound bitrate?

  12. vitualis,

i assume you use SVCD....wut bitrate you use???...i assume that any near-DVD quality can't allow 70 min/disc...i personally use 3 discs for movies that last up to 2 hr and 8 min (give or take a few min depending on the aspect ratio of the movie cuz i use vbr)

  13. I think that there was some miscommunication somewhere...

The original question was talking about VCD, not SVCD. My answer was along this line of thought.

    I wasn't talking about SVCD -- and I don't make them.

  14. OK guys I did a full run of the movie which is actually exactly 65:30 in length.
At 2400 CBRset at a quality of 60, a motion detection quality set to high (slow) and a resolution of 720X480 the resulting mpeg was 1.17GB (after 5.5 hrs with tempeg)! a little larger than one CDR eh?
I found I would probably get a file small enough for one CDR if I reduce the resolution to 352X240, but the output is really bad!
Is getting 65 minutes onto 1 CDR with reasonable quality just not possible?
Let me know before I delete the vob files!
    thanks

There is only ONE VCD format.

There is one good reason why I don't make SVCD. I don't have a DVD player and don't really plan on getting one in the near future.

  17. vitualis, so u're fine with the lower resolution and bitrate of VCD 2.0?
