Hi guys,
I just ran across this old JVC HR-VP404U VCR. I just want to use it as a tuner but it has no remote and is always in VCR mode [defaults]. Does anyone know how to MANUALLY switch modes with this thing? I hope there is a sequence 'cause I don't find a mode button on the unit? Am I just S.O.L?
Thanks friends,
Mike

Maybe I should phrase this differently. IF this vcr had a remote, there would be a button labeled TV/VCR [or "input"]. With no remote however there is no button on this vcr unit itself to perform this function manually. Many vcr's DO have such a button on the vcr unit but this JVC does not.

Get a cheap remote and it will have a booklet with all the codes in. One will do your VCR

Thank you for the helpful reply. Now that you mention it, Wal-mart had some cheap GE very limited function universal remotes hanging by the checkout for only $4.00.
Thanks again for the kick start!
