I want to cut few AVI files created by Sony Movie Shaker program, but every time I try to use VirtualDub 1.4.8 I get this error
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format "dvsd" (unknow)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
    what I am doing wrong!
I need help! to solve this issue I am using WinXp pro

    Thank you

And possibly all of us have Windows XP.
    Possibly this is because
Microsoft has decided to stop support of VfW drivers with Windows XP onwards

  4. I had the same problem. Luckily I had a Win2k machine with StudioDV on it. Since I don't use that machine for DV any more I figure it's ok to use some of StudioDV on the XP machine (its version 1.02 which isn't supported on XP)

I searched the registry for dvsd - found it under
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers32\vidc.dvsd
    description is at
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc

Copied these two entries to a .reg file.
Used depends (http://www.dependencywalker.com) to work out which dlls I had to take with the one named in vidc.dvsd
Moved the dlls to windows\system32 on the XP machine and added the registry entries and voila - VirtualDub works agains DV avi files.

Presumably this is what other people have done by installing the panasonic codec - I just wanted to make sure I could undo the install if it didn't work.
