I have a Philips DVP5982 and I only for it for region free hack. This DVD player I only used once in a blue moon so I think it will not break down how other members that have Philips.

The ones that have broken down did they have a lot of miles on the unit?

I know I bought a refurbish unit, so maybe Philips fixed the heat sink problem but who knows.

If you are a Philips own please post how long you have had the unit working or broken down.

ALL players break and usage isn't always a factor. And Philips players are on the low end of the quality scale. With that said, I still have an original DVP642. The main thing to watch for most of the cheap slimline players, is proper ventilation. They tend to get warm, so ensure you have good airflow and don't stack other items on top of them.

I have some concern regarding a slimline player that is neither Phillips nor on the cheap end -- it actually was more towards the high end. There is another piece that has to be there: a switcher. Would it be better to have this under the player, vs. on top of it ? The airflow situation there is otherwise not bad. Because of rubber feet on the switcher, there is some clearance between the two pieces. I'll have to check it, but I think it's at least an inch, perhaps two.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

Seeker47 - Nothing personal because I have seen your posts before and I respect your advice, but dude, seriously - after 990 posts and almost 4 years of being a member how do you not know better than to thread hijack?

You needed to make a new post. Trying to take over a thread with a completely unrelated question is VERY UNCOOL and not appreciated here. This thread was specifically about Philips DVD players.
