I have recently downloaded four movies in avi format. UNfortunately the TMPGE program will not recognize these files even after I manipulated the environment/VFAPI Plug-In settings. I can find no other advice on this site or others. Are these movies incapable of being converted, or is there another program I could use? All I know is that these files have an avi extension and play fine on Windows Player. Please Help.

  2. can you play it in Media Player? if you can't then bkoyle is right you need the correct codec

usually if you can play it in Medai Player you can convert it in TMPGEnc

most commonly missed codecs for downloaded movie are DivX (get both versions)

    3.11 Alpha -- http://planetmirror.com/pub/divx/windows/divx_3.11alpha.zip

    Open DivX -- http://www.divx-digest.net/software/codec/divx4betacodec.exe

    and SMR
