I am one of the people who has been caught out buying this player after reading it listed with the specs of the LS86. Cannot find a region code hack.I noticed what looked like a remote sensor, the LS83 does not have a remote control but can be operated fully with the control i have for my old panasonic LS5.So with that in mind im guessing that it can also be region hacked using the remote control of the other player.I just need someone to tell me HOW?.

I do not think your player has a hack, but you can check over here.

If you need a player that is cheap witha region hack look at Philips and Toshiba and OPPO dvd players.

Well, theres a chipped remote that can be hired on a ten day rental basis for £22 for the LS83.But im still baffled as to why the player can be fully operated using the remote from another panasonic player (LS5) and has a remote sensor but does not come with its own remote control. Why make a remote operable player that doesnt have a remote?.

If you have the unlock codes from the other players, you can try them and see if they work. As for the player not having a remote, it was likely a simple cost issue. And there isn't much reason for a remote on a portable player.

A google search will show several electronics stores selling the LS83 as a region free player-they are making a point of saying they guarantee that "their region free players will work" so there must be a way of making them region free.Trouble is it seems to be a closely guarded secret how they do it but at least we know it is possible.
