I'm a bit of a novice in burning, cutting, editing, etc. I have downloaded a video onto my computer's hard drive. I would like to burn it onto a CD-R(RW) disc but the file is too big. 704 MB. Standard CD-R's are only upto 700 MB. I have the NERO Demo versionto use to burn CD's. Basically I need help finding out how I should go about splitting the downloaded file, what software to use, and how to burn it onto two seperate CD-R(RW) discs. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Mpeg video is burned in mode 2, just like audio. What this means is that an 80 minute CD holds 80 minutes of mpeg, or 800MB. A 74 minute CD-R (650MB in mode 1) will hold 740MB of mpeg. Try burning the file as a VCD and let us know if that works (it should). The only instance I can think of that not working is if your video has the wrong padding--this makes Nero think a 750MB video (75 minutes) is really 850MB. Anyway, first things first. Try burning your VCD and let the board know if it works.

Thanks for the response, Video guy. I followed the instructions on how to burn video onto a CD-R(RW) that "VCD Help" offered. It worked on a MPEG file that contained 400 MB. But the problem still lies on splitting a larger file into 2 seperate files so that I may burn it onto two different discs. I look in the "Help Topics" section of NERO, and the only Heading that seemed related to what I need is "Creating a Multisesseion CD" and " Continuing a Multisession CD". I tried following these instructions but still came up empty. I'm not even too sure if this is the proper proceedure to accomplish what I want. Does "Creating a Multisession CD" mean splitting a large file in two? Very confused and exasperated.

Ok. . .
Well, first of all, I am not sure why you would want to split your file into 2 pieces when you can fit it on one CD. To review, 800MB of mpeg will fit on a 700MB CD-R since it is burned in mode 2.
Secondly, you are not in the correct Nero template if you are wondering about which "multisession" settings to use. VCD's are disc-at-once. It sounds to me as if you are in the ISO CD-ROM template in Nero. This is incorrect!! A VCD has a specific hierarchy of folders and a data structure that makes it different than a CD-ROM (and it holds "more" then a normal CD-ROM, as I have been saying). In Nero, go to "new". On the left side of your screen, you'll see templates for different types of CD's. Scroll down to "Video CD". This should solve all your problems. -
Thanks again. I think I might be on the right track now. I also found on the "Help Topics", " how to burn oversized CD's". I hope its the right one. Trying to burn now as I'm typing. I let you know soon enough if it works.

Well according to Nero, I have "sucessfully" burned a VCD. So for so good. but the real test will come when I try a playback. Once again, thanks for the help.
