I record quite a bit of television, and use my TIVO to do most of it. With Tivo2Go, I can transfer my shows to the computer and then put them on DVD. With the TIVO format, I can fit 6 episodes on one disk, and without having to go through additional time and energy, I leave them in the TIVO format which Media Player can read with no problems.

I need a good database program which can be utilized to manage a huge collection. Thank goodness I don't have to worry about taking up as much space as my old VHS collection, but it's still big.

In the old days, I could have used Paradox, but I don't even know if it's still in existence. I would use Access (of which I have in a before-2000 Office copy) but it looks more complex than I can handle--probably why I never used it way back then as well.

The main thing would be the ability to have enough fields to put all the eps in a file, and to customize other fields for show name, eps titles, guest stars, etc. Perhaps even a field for boiler plate show synopsis, IMDB info, and a comments field. I don't mind making up an input template which makes life easier, but I would like to be able to move fields around if I need to.

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this request, but I am hoping that someone out there takes pity on me and can offer me some suggestions.

Thanks in advance--your help is definitely appreciated.

P.S. I also have a fairly large movie DVD collection, which I need to catalog as well. Is there any program out there that would be able to meld the two collections as well? These are regular purchased movie DVDs, but I don't have a scanner or anything to scan the bar codes--I looked at one database that had you just scan it to get the details, so it wasn't going to work for me.

I've been testing out this online database app for another purpose. It's very impressive, easy to set up, and is flexible enough for your needs. Free if you have less than 1000 records.

There are programs specifically for DVD collections. I use DVD Profiler ( http://www.invelos.com/ ). You simply input the title or UPC and it collects all of the other information, including IMDB link.

I've been using Extreme Movie Manager. It's versatile, inexpensive, and will collect info from your video files and access IMDB or many other data bases. http://www.binaryworks.it/extrememoviemanager/ Works for TV episodes and my Xvids, along with my DVDs.

MS Access is a very difficult program to use, IMO. I would use Excel before I would even mess with Access.

I can heartily recommend MovieMangerPro. I use it to manage multiple files accross multiple external hdds. It is great being able to search for any specific file, find out what drive it is on without first connecting any hdd. It will autoload all video files as the user defines the video filetype and it will launch the associated file if the location is accessible (hdd connected and turned on). I loved the free version so much that I paid to upgrade to the paid Pro version. It has been updated fairly regularly over the past 6 months with features that have been true improvements. Give it a try.
