My home PC where I do all my stuff (3d applications, vid editing, audio editing/recording, CAD and 3d rendering etc) is finally getting connected to the net tomorrow.
As it has not been on the net I have no anti virus on it, no firewalls or mal ware (although I have once a year installed scanned and removed the programs).
I simply know where everything going on it is from so dont need the same security as net connected PCs....until now!
So basically why do people always say avoid the complete security suites, even from companys who produce otherwise excellent individual programs? As I like as much resources as possible for my demanding app's which is the way to go for a system where you rely on peformance?
Im thinking of using either AVIRA or KASPERSKY if I go an all in one suite, and actually the new NORTON 2009 has scored some great reviews and even has a lower RAM footprint than KASPERSKY, so it seems they have listened to the constant complaints of it being a resource hog and made it very good.
If I go indivdual, im thinking of COMODO or ONLINE ARMOUR for my firewall and AVIRA or KASPERSKY for anti virus, with AVIRA being free it is a good thing.

I have moved completely away from norton products, over the last several years the solution to a problem has been more commonly to REMOVE these products.
Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, then either AVG or Avast. AVG is starting to show some very Norton-like issues of late.
