  1. A friend installed DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip a home made DVD to his hard drive. Since there was no encryption on the disk, how were the ripped VOB files any different from the ones on the DVD? In this case, wouldn't the result have been the same by dragging the VIDEO_TS folder to the hard drive?

We converted the VOB files to MPG files (the desired result) using VOB2MPG. Is there a way to rip all of the files straight from the DVD to the hard drive with the resulting files being MPG without rendering and without having to run a separate program, like VOB2MPG? It seems that DVDFab has to extract the four "main movies" on the DVD one at a time. Those individual VIDEO_TS folders have to be converted to MPG one at a time.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

If the disc is not protected then you can use VOB2MPG to extract the mpg content directly from the DVD to your HDD. That is the quickest method.
