    Hi
I need some help with choice of printer for direct print to CD's (pref. inkjet) for Ubuntu. Ive heard that Canon isn't well supported so I'm looking for something in equivalent price-range /quality as the ip4600 Canon with manageable software/driver support. Can anybody help me out here please?

The HP Photosmart D5160 has Linux drivers available. I'm not a Linux user so I can't vouch for it's functionality under Ubuntu, it works great under Win2k.

I'm in the US, so model names might be different.

The Epson R2** series works just fine with Linux, and The Gimp. The default printer drivers support CD/DVD printing, and is easily done inside the Gimp. The hardest part will be finding and using a template that lines up well. It does take some fiddling. Once you get the dimmensions, try to buy the same discs everytime.

Google has tons of results for CD templates. Post back if you can't find one, and I'll see if I can dig up my old xcf template. Considering the cost of Ink, and issues I had with generic carts and Epson printers, I either Light Scribe, or use a stand alone Casio title printer now.

Good luck with your new printer. I discovered this thread, should be helpful. I tried out the Verbatim hub printable PSD with Gimp and my Epson R200. Worked like a charm
