  1. -Hey!-

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem before, but my menus are scrambled when I play my VCD on my DVD player. Everything else works fine. I can hear audio... the menu is just scrambled! Sometimes, when I pause on the menu, it shows up clear. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Here's what I did: I created a .bmp (704*480 pixels), and a 10 second silent .wav file. I merged (if that's the correct term) them together using TMPGEnc, output as MPEG-1 VCD. I used TCSV to put everything together. The log shows the following for the menus (I did ony the menus here so I could copy that portion):

scanning mpeg sequence item "menu-0" for scanpoints...
audio stream #0 has bitrate 196608 kbps (should be 224 kbps for this vcd type)
scanning mpeg sequence item "menu-1" for scanpoints...
audio stream #0 has bitrate 196608 kbps (should be 224 kbps for this vcd type)
scanning mpeg sequence item "menu-2" for scanpoints...
audio stream #0 has bitrate 196608 kbps (should be 224 kbps for this vcd type)
scanning mpeg sequence item "menu-3" for scanpoints...
audio stream #0 has bitrate 196608 kbps (should be 224 kbps for this vcd type)
scanning mpeg sequence item "menu-4" for scanpoints...
audio stream #0 has bitrate 196608 kbps (should be 224 kbps for this vcd type)
    writing track 1 (ISO9660)...
writing file `CDI/CDI_IMAG.RTF' (1315168 bytes, raw sectors file)
    writing file `CDI/CDI_TEXT.FNT' (13616 bytes)
    writing file `CDI/CDI_VCD.APP' (102400 bytes)
    writing track 2, MPEG1, NTSC UNKNOWN (704x480/29.97fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/192kbps/stereo ...
    writing track 3, MPEG1, NTSC UNKNOWN (704x480/29.97fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/192kbps/stereo ...
    writing track 4, MPEG1, NTSC UNKNOWN (704x480/29.97fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/192kbps/stereo ...
    writing track 5, MPEG1, NTSC UNKNOWN (704x480/29.97fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/192kbps/stereo ...
    writing track 6, MPEG1, NTSC UNKNOWN (704x480/29.97fps), audio[0]: l2/44.1kHz/192kbps/stereo ...
finished ok, image created with 7035 sectors [01:33.60]

I know that in the MPEGs that work, the "UNKOWN" part usually says NTSC, also. I don't know if that is for audio, or what. I knot that my audio is not the correct bit-rate, but I don't know what to do about that! Plus, I can hear audio fine, its the visuals that don't work right.

    Someone please help!

    -Thanks!-

  2. I neglected to mention that I have already tried re-encoding those menu files using VCDGearGUI and MPEG-Corrector. Both programs caused the files to become unreadable by Windows Media Player. So, that only caused more problems.

Also, I guess it sounds bad that I said the audio works fine although I later said I used a 10 second silent .wav. Well, I used a short audio track for the last menu, which works fine. That's what I meant!

    I still need serious help!

  3. The problem is that you haven't made files which are VCD compliant and your player is choking on it.

For info on how to make a real high resolution still image on a VCD (must use it as a segment-item, NOT sequence-item): http://www.geocities.com/mikk999/VCDStills.htm

  4. First of all, I'd like to say thanks for replying.

I hadn't thought of using a still motion menu. However, I followed the advice on the link you gave me for one of my menus... it was confusing, but I wanted to test it out. Then, I used TSCV's still motion menu generator for another one of my menus. Well, I tested them both, and they both worked... so I'll stick to TSCV's menu generator! It did in two steps what took Video CD Toolkit V2.0 about 10 steps.

Thank you so very much for pointing me in the right direction! I owe you one!
