Hi, i'm new here and I am experiencing a highly inconvenient problem

every time i try to open a Xvid file in VirtualDub it says:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'Xvid' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a codec for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video.

Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable"

I know many people have asked this question but for them it works when they install an Binay Xvid codec like Koepi's
but when I do this, it just returns the error message described above so how the f*ck am I supposed to open a Xvid File in virtualdub?

please help since this is bothering me the whole weekend already -.-

    thanks in advance!

Can you open the file in mediainfo, change to view->text and copy and paste the information here.

Or just try convert, edit the file in avidemux.

  5. Xvid + Vista64? It requires a special installation:

Even with Vista32 I think you have to install as Administrator.

  9. Are you running VirtualDub64? You need a 64 bit version of Xvid for that.

  10. When using XviD in 64bit, you need a 64bit codec, like the one by Celtic Druid. Download it HERE.
