Hi please can you clever people offer me some help with regards to playing high definition video on my PC?..........

Bascially which player(s) would you recommend for .mkv and .m2ts?

I have been using WMP to play .mkv which has been ok so far.
As for .m2ts well, PowerDVD Ultra seems to play them but a) There is a slight stuttering which is noticeable when something pans slowly and smoothly across the screen and b) I have no audio.

I don't think the stuttering is anything to do with my PC as it's more than capable in all the important departments.
What may matter is the fact that I am using Windows Vista 32bit.

    Many thanks for any advice.

Hi Baldrick and thank you for your time.

I downloaded and installed the 4 software packages you suggested.

When playing with MPC the video becomes pixelated occasionally.
    What can cause this?

    Two other queries for you.....

    1) I installed the software you suggested using all defaults. There were several options during install which I didn't touch as I didn't understand half of them!
    Is this OK?

    2) I would be happy to "clean" my PC of any software and codecs which may affect matters and to reinstall again from scratch.
Please tell me if this is worthwhile and how to go about it.

Just to let you know of a few other things which may help.....
My PC has a Quad Core CPU and 2GB RAM.
The graphics card is a GeForce 8800GTS 512MB and BD Advisor reports it capable of everything

I have PowerDVD 8 Ultra and this plays some .m2ts OK but others have missing audio.
It doesn't seem to play .mkv so I have been using WMP for that.

What I want is a piece of software which will play .mkv and .m2ts without stuttering and with audio

  4. MPCHC is my favorite player now. It has file splitters for most containers (including m2ts and mkv) and most codecs built-in. If necessary you can disable any of the built-in filters and fall back on DirectShow instead.

    Taking an advice from Baldrick

I purchase a High Definition MKV player calls EP6000P
G go here for more detail http://http://www.datoptic.com/high-definition/high-definition-players.html
There are many resellers out there would have lower cost, do google it

That's is the end of the quest playing H.264 code...

Bonus: It comes with BT buitl-in... so my Quad Cores is no longer doing the download but rather compress the ripped Blu ray

like jagabo i use MPCHC. but sometime for m2ts with h.264/avchd i use oxygen avchd player.
its better for avchd/h.264 playback than MPCHC.
