I'm taking DL DVDs that have TV episodes on them (say, 4 episodes) and ripping them to two SL DVD's that have 2 episodes each.
To do this, I use DVD Decrypter to transfer files to my HD, DVD Shrink to create the ISO files (no compression needed to create the DVD-5 because it's only 2 episodes each), and then ImgBurn to burn the ISO files to disc.
Finally, my question. The resulting discs when played on a regular DVD player occasionally have pauses in playback. Not too frequently - maybe one disc in five.
Any guess as to what might be causing this problem? Shrink, ImgBurn, cheap discs (these are inexpensive RiData DVD-R's i get from NewEgg) - or something else?
Thanks very much!

I'm guessing the pauses come near the end of the discs? I had that problem when I was experimenting with different brands, and using a not-too-good player. Now I only use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim discs, play with an Oppo, and never have issues.

I will say this though... I sometimes use cheap discs without problems but I think some burners just have better luck with cheaper media than others do. Some burners only function well with high quality media (ty, verbatim...etc).
Have a look at lordsmurf's site www.nomorecoasters.com for good info about blank media.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again") -
Thanks for the quick replies. It must be the super-cheap discs -- I'll try some of the higher quality brands you guys suggest. BTW, it happens at random points in the disc playback, not just at the beginning. ImgBurn problems didn't really make sense, since the Verify option was being used. Thanks again!

When using cheap discs, you can frequently improve the quality of the burns by burning at a speed one or two notches below maximum. So, if the speed rating of the disc is, say, 16x, burning at 12x or 8x often improves things appreciably. It won't convert bad into good, mind you, but it will often convert bad into less bad. And sometimes that's enough.
But, as others have mentioned, the real solution is simply to buy good media (Verbatim and Taiyo-Yuden are the brands mentioned most often here).
