I have a homebuilt computer. ms-7095.the motherboard is made by msi computers.it has onboard video, audio, and lan.up until recently i was using crt monitors.one at a time, of course.about a month or so ago i got a 17 inch lcd monitor.the onboard video is 32 megs.i decided to install a 64 meg agp video card.i bought one on an ebay auction.it is an nvidia geforce2 ultra. i installed the card and when i booted the computer the post screen was dark.the letters and words were dim.when i finally got into windows i saw a bunch of horizontal lines.problem after problem with it.i took out the card and wanted to use the onboard video.the display was very jerky and shaky.

i reinstalled the nvidia card and got the same results.i also installed the latest driver(s) for it.still jerky screen.i connected the lcd monitor to an old laptop computer i have.perfect display.i i then connected the desktop computer to the old crt computer.while using the nvidia card.same crappy results.i uninstalled the nvidia card and went back to using the onboard video.i now have a very shaky display.earlier, i booted into safe mode.perfect display.i also deleted the nvidia
files and deleted them in the registry.there were a few i could not delete from the registry.and now i have a screen that looks like it has palsy.

any idea as how to fix this problem?its way past annoying.

  2. Sounds like either the refresh rate or the resolution is wrong for the onboard video. Safe mode defaults to lower values.

As for the Nvidia card, seems defective. Should have more than one output connection, have you tried those? Also double check the resolution settings. Was the brightness the only problem with the display on the Nvidia card? This is adjustable with the card's software. Did you try this card in Safe Mode?

  3. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore?

A GForce2 ultra probably won't have more than one output. It's a very old card.

thanks for the replies.i did try system restore.i went back 2 days before the problem happened. i still have the shaky display.i do also think the nvidia card is defective.

with the nvidia card installed, i got a lot of lines.i did try it in safe mode.i dont think it worked there either.

for now,I'm just wanting to view a stable display.

  5. Ah, I missed the part about the lines. On both monitors? Almost certainly a bad card.

You should be able to go into Device Manager and delete all video cards, reboot, and re-install drivers, Windows should do this automatically. Display Properties will show you the refresh rate and resolution, the R & R should correct these. You could reduce these manually, step-by-step.

Double-check your power cords, connections, possible interference.

Did you install any software with the Nvidia card? Some combinatons of AGP drivers and mobo do not play nice. Did you change any BIOS settings? Sometimes you need to disable on-board video for the additional card to work.

Would also recommend doing full power-off reboots while testing. Some older monitors do not respond correctly to changes while online.

i went into device manager and uninstalled the display adapter. rebooted and windows re installed the software. i am currently using 800 by 600 display, 16 bits.the refresh rate is set to 60 hertz. the display is still shaky.

if i buy a video card, will that fix the prob? i am not a gamer.i just wanted a better display.

  7. GForce2 ultra is a 2000-2001 card. A newer card will likely be better. You can get new ones for $30.
