I know this is a stupid question, and I also tried to search an answer, but every topic in here seams to be too complicated for me. So, I want to add subtitles to my movies and I'm using subtitler workshop, whlile I'm confronting with two problems:
the synchronisation is very bad (subtitle are shown with 3 sec. in advanced) and there are in small characters. So I tried to get them bigger, im option Menu, but there are dupplicated (the small version, and the biggest version).
I'm despaired....Is anyone who would like to help me??? pleaaasssseeee I would be soooo gratefull

Read the help of the program. It explains how to shift times. Very easy to select all and adjust by 3 seconds, or whatever you want.

One subtitle is being created automatically when you view the video, and one by Subtitle Workshop.
You probably have a Vobsub filter installed in Windows. Turn it off.
Or rename the subtitle file so it's different for the video file. Then open it in Subtitle Workshop, and select the video file from the "movie" menu.
You can change the filename back after you've edited it.

    thank you AlanHK!

well now I still have problems...
I explain you want I want: I want to burn my movies on a DVD with bigger letters. I managed to encrease them using subtitler workshop, I save them as Substationalpha ( I recently read that only this kind of format contains information about font etc..I have no idea if it is right..). So, now I obtained a new file with the extension ssa in the same folder with my movie. If I open my movie with bsplayer, there are no subtitles .....( only if I leave the original...with srt extension.
    Where am I wrong?

  4. Maybe BSplayer doesn't show that format, but only SRT. Size of subs is set in the player that you use. Try VLC as a player, it's free.

    thanks a lot!
    now I'm almost finished...finally I've found another program ssa-srt converter,and I' ve successfully obtained a *ssa file.
Now I try to encod my subtitle with virtualdub, but.....my movie is a XviD- file and I don't find the right codec for that ( as I know it should be XviD Mpeg-4 Codec); as you can see in my screenshot.
    Can I use another one?

Please use jpeg, gif, png for screenshots, not RTF (and not BMP either). (Use Paint to make this if you don't have anything else.)

Anyway, in VDub: File/save as/compression/change and choose your codec, then configure its settings.

Well, I realized that I didn't had that codec, so I've download it. Anyway, another problem ocurred: when I open my video file in virtualDub, I receive a warning, as you can see in my screenshot.
    What should I do?

Sorry, I'm not downloading a doc file.
A jpeg is about 1% of the size and displays inline. Please learn how to do that and more people will be inclined to help you.

    Example:
