Usually a laptop is set by default to power saving mode. This is also slow mode with reduced CPU performance. AFAIK, most all the power settings are in 'Control Panel>Mobile PC>Change Battery Settings'. You can set it to power saving mode and customize those settings if needed.

You can also save power by turning down your display brightness and setting the computer to turn off modems or WiFi devices if you aren't using them.

I would also check some reviews of that laptop to see if there are any comments about short battery life. My Compaq laptop is always on a power supply, so I don't recall what kind of battery life it has, but I also have it set for performance and I doubt it would last an hour on the battery.

  3. I've got same problem with my laptop, you may have just small battery. One work 2h others 1h..

  4. As well as the wireless adapter, turn the display brightness down as far as you can. The fluorescent tube is a power hog and it's level isn't usually configured by the OS. My battery normally gives me 2 hours. By doing both of these things, I can get 5.5 hours - enough to keep me occupied on a transatlantic flight.

Is the battery a genuine Toshiba battery? or was it bought online from China or eBay?
If not a genuine battery it's capacity is probably not what the packaging/labeling indicates

  7. which model of laptop, an hour seems bad, drain it right down (seems you do so regularly) and ensure it is fully charged before you use it, then see how long it lasts.

    Take it back !

My HP was about 90mins at first, now down to about 40mins after 18months.
You can buy a solar charger and a dreambook universal charger that are "supposed" to give you 3-4 extra hours.
A PC mag said 5 months ago that 20-30 hours batteries should be on the way "soon".
