Using XP sp 3 and I've been getting explorer crashes when left clicking on mpeg files. I can right click and double click on them on them without any problems.
I've tried disbling all third part shell extensions but that didn't work.
This is the event log entry for the crash
When I Google viscommpgdec.dll I get a lot of hits relating to Vista and Windows Live Photo Gallery (which I don't have installed).Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module viscommpgdec.dll, version 9.0.0.0, fault address 0x00003119.
Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't it always the way. In a moment of clarity after posting I fixed the problem.
Did a search on my computer for the dll expecting to find it in a Windows folder but found it sitting in a folder for Free Video Converter by Extensoft. No problem I thought, I'll just uninstall the program. Unfortunately this program doesn't have an uninstall routine but I did find a batch file that unregisters it's dll's. Ran it and problem fixed.
Strange thing is I installed this program over a month ago to try it out but the left click problem only started a week ago. -
Explorer can crash when it tries to open a file it doesn't understand and generate a thumbnail for it. But it sounds like you found the cause of the problem.
A temporary fix is sometimes to turn off thumbnails in Folder Options.
And welcome to our forums.
