Always working on the basis that if something is too good to be true it probably is, this seems to be a good way of sending/sharing stuff with other users, or am I missing a major restriction somewhere?

I use MediaFire which has unlimited free hosting with unlimited bandwidth BUT no single file can be larger than 100MB but of course the work around is to use something like WinRAR to cut up a large file into multiple *.rar files that are 100MB or so in size. Then when someone downloads all the *.rar files they can un-compress it easily.

Yes thats always been the problem, but this seems to offer the ability to upload a 4.6 GB file (Why did I pick that size !) and a friend download it anywhere.

I haven't used it, but transferring a big file can be risky in that if your transfer gets interrupted, you're screwed - you have to do it all over. Might not be a problem if you are on FIOS or have unlimited bandwidth, but most people don't. In this regard, downloading a bunch of segments is "safer"
There are many free hosting sites . Most have a filesize limitation , but not transfer limitations . Some sites have great transfer speed (even using the free service), while others are capped. -
just FYI it has a 50MB single file limit-thats what i was getting at, just found it.

50MB per single file?
That's worse than MediaFire which is 100MB per file and essentially limitless.
