  1. I have downloaded Ocean's 11 SVCD (the version) from FASTempire. I have extracted the rar files, which resulted in a bin and cue file. Then I used CDRwin to burn the bin and cue files.

I then tried to play the cd's in my CD-rom with PowerDVD, but I get this error: 89030000 - Unknown file format. Then I tried to open the cd's in explorer to see, what the two cd's contain, but my computer doesn't recognize that there is a cd in the cd-rom.

I have tried the cd's on two other computers, but it's the same result except that they don't even get the error in PowerDVD. Two of my friends have the same problem with their version of Ocean's 11, which they have burned on their own computers.

So my question is, what can I do to watch these SVCD's on my computer, shall I download a mpeg2 codecs?

I have no problems, when I extract the mpeg file with Isobuster.

    I hope someone can help.

  2. This may or may not help , but...

Download daemon-tools and mount the bin/cue files onto a virtual cdrom. See if it plays back correctly that way. Not the best permanent fix, but may get you through this particular movie )

  3. I installed Daemon tools and it worked fine. I tested it with Monsters Inc. and I could see the movie, which I also could when I used Isobuster. Does it mean that the burnprocess failed, when I tried to burn the bin and cue file as an Image???

As you said, this is not a permanent fix.

  4. Try another cdr software package,Nero 5.0 will write cue & bin files.

  5. In PowerDVD, you have to hit the button "Select Source", then select "Open Media File". Browser to the MPG file of the SVCD, select it, hit ADD, hit OK, and it should work.

PowerDVD doesn't automatically start playing SVCD's like it would DVDs. Gotta go thru the steps above.

    Good luck.

EDIT: Er, nevermind. Reread the post and replies :) I myself have a tough time reading some of these larger CD images once burned onto a CD. What's odd, is.. I have an OLD Ricoh 6200 2x burner - WOW! Anyway, seems to burn everything "ok", and even though it doesn't support it, think it actually does a little overburning - which may not be a healthy thing. Anyway, I've been able to fit 800mb mpg files on a 700mb CD-R. Not sure why.. but it does. That said, I sometimes have difficulty reading the CD-Rs. Often, I have to keep ejecting and inserting the CD until it "works". Same problem with my Toshiba 12x CD-ROM drive.

I can, however, usually load no probs in my laptop's DVD drive. But, I still have to go through the same steps at the top of my reply. I can't just have PowerDVD loaded, inset disc, and the SVCD start running. Always have to go through the steps above.

Another option is buying a cheap $79 Apex AD-1500 DVD Player at Circuit City. Supports DVD, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD and some other stuff. *shrug*

  6. That doesn't work. I can't browse the SVCD in explorer nor in PowerDVD.

  7. Is it because I don't have this file "SCSI1HLP.VXD" installed on my pc?

    I'm using WinXP.

"In order to play VideoCD's on a PC (or even copy the dat files from a VideoCD in the CDROM drive to the PC's disk) you have to have the virtual device driver SCSI1HLP.VXD in Window's \SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS directory; otherwise, the file structure will not be recognized by Windows. My file was there but some program had changed it's extension. After renaming and rebooting, my VideoCD's now run without a hitch."
