  1. I see SKY are charging CURRENT customers £30 for setup costs (FREE only to NEW customers)

what EXACTLY has to be changed? - dont they just change recievers over? or do they have to fit a special LnB onto current dish and run a 2nd line into premises?

cos if not I could EASILY setup myself - swap boxes and setup via menu

Its just a case of swaping boxes IF you had Sky+ before. Otherwise you need the dual LnB.

it does. as does sky+ which would allow you a stright swap....

So you need an install really. sky or independant.

I would get on the phone to sky and say you want it but don't want to pay for install - see where you get.... Otherwise cancel sky (they will beg you to stay see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=115125&highlight=sky+upgrade) and then sign up as a new customer!

Not that i am aware of (without specialised kit). The only way i have done it is via the "copy" feature which allows you to copy to DVDR. From there to your PC etc... But this route is only SD not HD.

£30 for fitting a dual LNB is a good deal.

"DualLNB" is not the correct term.
Dual mean s H and V outputted independently.

What you guys mean is Monoblock LNB.

Tell them you won'y upgrade to HD unless they waive the fee.

They usually fold if you threaten to cancel - two friends of mine did that and the fee was dropped.

Basically you have your DVDR connected to Sky box via scart. Then any recordings from the sky planner can be marked to copy. When you invoke copy, those recordings are played back and so can be recorded by the DVDR.

The dealers who sell them here call them dual, quad, octo, etc. If you were to call them anything else they wouldn't know what you were talking about. Also the type sold for Sky dishes is considerably different from the type sold for standard dishes.
