    a noobish question ---

DVD Shrink in Reauthor Mode lets you Set Default Streams, and assign the default audio and subtitle stream (or HIDE the subtitles by default, which is my goal.)

Is there a way to do this using another software, perhaps by editing the IFO files or something? If so, a recommendation and quick explanation would be greatly appreciated.

(sorry if this is too dumb, but my google skills are obviously lacking for this subject.)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

PGCEdit lets you do this, I believe.

ah, guns, still rescuing little old ladies in distress, eh?

I had read through the PgcEdit help file, but failed to see the process I was looking for
(searching "Domain Attributes", "Stream", and a few other terms.)

I know I will feel really dumb once I find out how it is done!

It should be as simple as double-clicking on the VTS in question after opening the disc, and altering the stream order on the page that opens next.

Of course, I could be lying because at the moment I cannot find a multi-audio DVD structure on my HDDs that I can test it on.

I will find out after I get home in a bit --- just knowing now that PgcEdit holds the power allowed me to do a search, and found an old 2Cool guide of "how to disable subtitles by default". (now why didn't I type that into my google window in the first place? must be the senior moments.)

I'm hoping this process will just hide them, not disable them completely --- I've had 3 players in a row that insist on playing subtitles automatically, and it is annoying. But I still need them available.

    Thanks for the boost!

  6. There are a couple of ways to use PGCEdit to do what you want:

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showpost.php?p=296707&postcount=1

That one is for changing the default streams. This next one is for both setting the default streams as well as turning off a default stream, which you also asked about:

    http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/subtitles/subtitles_off_d...lt_pgcedit.htm

Unless a subtitle steam is set as the default explicitly, in which case you can run the trace to track down and change or remove the command, there shouldn't be a default subtitle. You might check and see if you've turned on a subtitle language in the DVD player menu, as I have.

Oh, I see you found the 2Cool guide to which I just linked. Yes, it just keeps them from being turned on automatically. You can still turn them on in the Subtitle menu or using the remote control.

manono, thank you for the links.

Now I will be able to assign default audio, and keep subtitles from displaying until I ask for them.

  10. What if there is already a "SetSTN" in the pre-commands list?
