    Greetings ....

Oh,what joy! Just bought a USB-to-Parellel cable which allows me to attach an HP DeskJet 600 parellel-only printer to my laptop.

Now, there are some printers which run on networks, but which also have an open parellel connection. Is it possible to attach a Desktop or Laptop to such a printer via a USB-to-Parellel connection, and then print out on that printer without disturbing the existing network connection?

  2. i am not totally sure, but i don't think you can do that. probably the best thing to do is contact the manufacturer of the printer you want to use that way and see if it will work.

  3. Almost all printers with multiple input types will print from any connected port, and all ports are live all the time. So, yes, you can usually make a direct parallel connection to a networked printer without causing any problem. The USB-to-Parallel cable does not enter into the equation, other than to add a significant "this might not work" factor.

The Deskjet 600 did not offer network connection. I am impressed it still works.

The HP600 DeskJet is merely a personal non-network printer. I presume an appropriate USB to USB PC-to-printer connection works the same way on a network printer, correct?

  5. Yes, it should work. I've been trying to remember if I have ever encountered a case where it did NOT work, seems like I have indeed seen this at least once but I think it was an oddball printer of some sort. Long time ago and very rare, anyway.
