This error would come up if you have
a single or double quote character, or apostrophe
    ' " ´ ` ” “ ’ ‘
    somewhere where it shouldn't be:
in a volume name, folder name, file name
or in your user account password.

I am lost and having the same issue.

##/bin/sh: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
/bin/sh: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file

Nothing I do works. I have raked through the forum and attempted so many fixes. mencoder and mplayer are both red and mpeg2enc will not install but at least its black. I get that error msg and then it un-checks the mpeg2enc box. Anyone have any ideas? Several hours on this problem without success. I have an admin password and I am using it. No illegal characters.

If the installer script was faulty (e.g. a quotation mark where it shouldn't be), then more users would have this issue. That leaves just your setup, as far as I can tell. You didn't name your disk e.g. Pete's Disk, or have a folder John's downloads, i.e. used an apostrophe in a place where the installer script might encounter it?

To rule out user account password problems, change it temporarily to "aa" (without the quotes) or something similarly simple.

Thanks Case. I re-read your first post and looked at the folder name where the files were stored and sure enough it was named using an apostrophe. The simplest answer was the correct one. I removed the offending punctuation mark and everything installed perfectly. Thanks for your help. Very appreciated.
