I have a movie trailer that is 1920x816 - IF I want to keep the PAR at 1:1 and the DAR at 2:35 can I size it down to 1280x720?

If you wanted the full frame 1280x720, but preserve the aspect ratio, you would add 88 to the top and bottom
(720-544)/2 = 88
